Jopelo Theophilo Ermitano, 91, of Hilo died Dec. 5 at home. Born in Naalehu, he was a retired heavy equipment operator, a former maintenance worker for the former Hilo Medical Group, a fisherman and World War II Army veteran.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by sons, Keith (Rosie) Ermitano of Spokane, Wash., Glennon Ermitano of Hilo; caughters, Claudia Pine of Haina, Honokaa, Jo-Nell Palacio of Papaaloa, Gaile Prugh and Sharon (Eric, Sr.) Fontes, both of Hilo, Pam (Billy, Jr.) Kahakua of Mountain View; hanai daughter, Alicia (Johnny) Rodriguez of Florida; 27 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
